Probably a bit clunky in terms of cinematics, soundtrack etc but really got under my skin and weirdly true to people I know! Enough to get me properly emotionally involved and yes I cried...
Andrew Scott is amazing. However watching his performances and being astounded by them maybe meant I didn't get the full emotional heft of the piece. Extraordinary performance though.
It opened my eyes to Samuel Beckett about whom I knew little. Contrary to other reviews I felt it was humorous and, especially now that I've read more about him, contained plenty of references to his works and the style he wrote in. I felt quite absorbed in the scenes, partly because I was sitting near the screen. However because the actors were so well known it gave me a certain distance. Enjoyed the black and white setting for earlier events, and the "waiting for Godot" style of personal interrogation.
