  Babylon is so endearingly earnest, even though it dosen't quite work. As a viewer you can feel Chazelle's love of the art form - of the culture and climate of early Hollywood - through the screen, and this enthusiasm and charm is almost enough to carry this movie through it's three-hour runtime. Like Manny in the final scene we are invited to bask in the bitter-sweet pang of nostalgia towards a bygone times when movies were more pure and artistically…
