such a high ceiling. there are some moments that are so brilliant and genuine, and packed with chaos, but those moments are packed in with some incredibly dull scripted scenes and conversations in the name of establishing a narrative. i get it, it’s attempting to hit a more poignant note, because just showing cut gameplay from gta v wouldn’t have been enough, i just felt that the humour and charm is lost in those scripted moments. what a brilliant idea though - so close to being groundbreaking

i never really knew my grandad, he died when i was around three. he moved from india to usa, and then the usa to the uk before finally meeting my very english grandmother. this film at its core to me, and more importantly my mum, the daughter of a first-generation immigrant, is about the humanity in immigration, and the versions of ourselves we leave behind when we emigrate to another country. and it makes me think about him.
