The film nearly lost me at the start with the ‘paper mache’ conversation in the first 10-15 minutes. But I stuck with it. I wouldn’t say I was glad that I stuck with it, but I didn’t regret it.
The poetic side of this film was aesthetically pleasing, and Jenna Ortega plays a crazy, vengeful, gothic girl incredibly well. So that somewhat counterbalances the sheer discomfort of the distasteful age-gap and calculated seduction (on both parts).
