  I have a real big problem with films like this. If you want to memorialise a psychopathic killer, justify it.

  I went into this highly doubtful it would have anything productive to say about the tragic and evil events of Port Arthur, but a few reviews led me to believe there was something interesting to latch onto here, something that made it worth revisiting.

  Unfortunately, my initial instincts were right.

  All of the good filmmaking aside, this is disappointingly passive…

  At times riveting but also frustratingly distant. The incredible songs are the centrepiece of the film and they speak for themselves, but the mysterious man remains a mystery. It feels weird to make a plain movie about a man who so intently didn’t want to be plain. This is a classical biopic with all the clichés and tropes but you gotta respect Mangold for just saying “fuck it” and making Walk The Line 2. Speaking of that, I wouldn’t mind a Boyd Holbrook solo Johnny Cash movie.
