Released just two years after Bottle Rocket, Rushmore is the film that really brought Wes into the limelight as a modern auteur. In purely aesthetic terms, it is far more developed than Bottle Rocket, introducing and utilising the now typical Anderson-isms we all know and love. The intricately designed shot layouts, the fantastically utilised soundtrack, the lovely slow motion, it’s all there, waiting to be perfected.
But what I think really sticks out about Rushmore is the striking emotional depth.…
