i feel like the reception & co-opting of this movie by incels & misogynists should teach everyone that irony & satire aren't effective or radical enough of tools as people who love hollywood a bit too much like to think

now that i started watching actual good movies and dont have to pretend to like the same 50 directors that elitist filmbros dickride i can finally say i dont want to hear a man that signed the polanski petition to make any movie about love. continuing to separate the art from the artist protects abusers and enablers and i need you all to start enjoying critical analysis over aesthetics & fitting in

originally hated this movie because sex workers said this film sucks which was enough for me to rate it half a star but i also found out sean baker is a far right zionist & a transphobe so now i really dgaf about him or his movies
so-called film nerds should stop letting white NYC (or adjacent) pretentious "artists" profit off stories about immigrants, sex workers, Black & trans people when its clear they not only not give a fuck but also are aggressively against the very subjects of their film's existence

shows exactly how white christian evangelists, under the guise of helping the farmers by "working together", were an integral part in an entire system of genocide & exploitation. while "offering a helping hand" in forms of food and vaccines that actually contained substances that aided in sterilizing Indigenous people, they were examining the land for minerals so that american mining companies (with the consent of the country's government) come and get rich off utilizing forced labor. the film sees multiple communities of campesinos joining together to fight against a common oppressor and talk about possible unity with the poor (exploited) classes in the cities as well.
