Well shit, this is a masterpiece. First off, the way light is animated in this is insane, and I think it’s overall the most polished animation I’ve seen. This story though, it really plays with you. It’s like reminiscing about childhood with a friend. I think everyone likes to keep a bit of their childhood with them. Taeko gets a little overwhelmed with nostalgia sometimes, and I felt it as well. I think the way her memories make their way into the world around her captures that feeling really well. The way the memories looked like bright watercolors was beautiful, it made the moments feel even more like reminiscing on those precious childhood memories. Then the way her younger self takes over in the ending sequence, and she allows it to make a decision for her. Really something special.
