I adore this impossible, horrifying, movie. I think the scene in the airport with the woman and the blue rose tells really is a key through which to view Lynch'd work as a whole-- how to percieve and grasp at underlying symbols and also the things that are intentionally meant to be percieved as mystery, to personify mystery.
I love that he came back to this fictional world and decided to focus almost the entirety of the movie on Laura…

Lesser in every way from Prometheus-- but I still enjoy it. Love Daniels and Tennessee and the whole initial infection scenes are really great and tense. Again religion feels pretty ham-fisted in this and Billy Crudup is wasted. Alien designs in this one are really incredible and I love all the designs of the city. Really wished he could have finished this trilogy .

That fucking bell sequence is so incredibly moving and it only has the intended effect when you sit through the first 2 1/2 hours of the movie (which are significantly less accessible, though I have my favorite vignettes and moments). It's brilliant and tears my heart out and makes me hopeful.
It's a movie that is a good palate cleanser to the disappointment felt from The Brutalist.
Favorite things that stood out this time were Adrei not wanting to paint the Last Judgement because was tired of scaring a population that has enough to be fearful of in their daily lives
