the biggest critique i repeatedly see from others this film is that it’s feminism is too “surface level”. is that true? yes, undoubtedly so, but that’s why it works. Barbie is an icon throughout generations; an icon throughout generations that don’t understand feminism through the ones that do, so it sparks the understanding to more people of what feminism is, even if the whole analogy of the movie flew over a lot of people’s heads. that is how films with far more complex ideas on feminism will slowly make it to mainstream media
