  John Ford is responsible for so much of our understanding of film grammar, but for most of the directors who were so inspired by him they clearly pulled from his more cinematic offerings: chase scenes, gun fights, blocking, ect.

  But this feels like a refined version of the other half of Ford, particularly How Green is My Valley and Grapes of Wrath. He's dripping all over the screen here in the best way possible, as big (polarization) political issues are…

  Can’t help but wonder how much of this movie was left on the chopping block but it feels like it. Plot points feel incoherent and difficult to navigate or understand. More concerning is how poorly this manages the tone. Shifts between satire and genuine drama so quickly it could snap your neck. At points it feels like starship troopers and pivots before i can ever catch up. I suppose the closest comp is probably Brazil?? but Pryce’s performance always keeps us grounded, the pattinson performances don’t (not really his fault tho)
