A condescending paean to middle class mediocrity. Cursed film. Stale-dated nice-core without the pretence of a setting. As an actor, Raiff can only convince as the room’s most disposable shitbag; otherwise, he fails to achieve the merest approximation of a real person with desires, history, or inner conflicts. And somehow the filmmaking is worse—you can count any decently-rendered compositions in this on your hand. Torturous scene after scene of characters telling each other exactly how they feel, a bunch of affected film school bullshit, quite frankly. We need the New York gatekeepers more than ever.
