  This one is getting a reception befitting of a complicated and timely work of genius. It's a dense and challenging movie that many seem to have little interest in reckoning with, like it's just some gimmicky Charlie Kaufman rip-off and can be written off as such. It might have the weird conceit of a Kaufman movie but it lacks the navel-gazing, opting for a humane, outward look at what it means to live in what feels like End Times.

  Put it on because I hadn't seen it in years. Still absolutely destroyed me when makhmalbaf embraces sabzian after he's released from prison. Crazy that a filmmaker with such a penchant for trickery is so committed to the humanity of his characters.

  Also (and this shockingly did not occur to me until, like, halfway into it) this movie pairs very well with Parasite.
