Maybe I just don’t get it.
The things that definitely worked: wardrobe, some of the performances sometimes, the moment where Zendaya was dancin’ around.
Other than that I don’t have much positive to say about the movie. Its themes are muddled at best. I think this is a movie about relationships using tennis as a metaphor for… relationships? But it somehow straddles the line of being a movie about tennis and a movie about a love triangle and ends up being a movie about… nothing??
TLDR; this movie was bad.

The writing wasn’t very good but the performance of our girl and the use of religious imagery was striking in some cases. The last sequence of the film was haunting and one of my favorite all year. It’s such a shame the rest of the movie is so mid.

Poor Things 2023
This movie had a lot of small things to say but nothing very big to say. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would give it four stars if the ending didn’t feel so… anticlimactic? Nothing happened. It feels like it fell victim to the modernism of absurdity. In place of writing a longer review, I’ll just give the Tldr; you should definitely see this, but don’t let it trick you into thinking it’s deeper than it is.
