Screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes has described Queer as an asynchronous love story. Early in the film, Lee tells Allerton, “The difficulty is to convince someone else he is really part of you.” At a glance, this sentiment feels romantic, even aspirational, but by the time the credits roll it reveals itself as the source of the film’s tragedy. TIFF 24 - FILM #1: Queer
Still thinking through some of its final moments but I was incredibly moved by this one. Luca Guadagnino’s latest is sexy, surreal, and sensitive in equal measures, an unapologetic look into the cycle of intergenerational queer desire and how some things don’t need to be passed on. Looks stunning, killer soundtrack. Drew Starkey pretty.Not gonna be for everyone but definitely for me. More thoughts to come.
