Anatomy of Hell 2004
I loved this. Breillat has always explored female abjection, consent and how men & women challenge each other sexually, in ways that are so transgressive and ambiguous. This feels like her opus (slowly working through her whole oeuvre). Wouldn’t recommend for someone who has a weak stomach, but this is a deceptive, intense foray into a woman’s bodily experience as she is constantly controlling her narrative and the perception of her image in the face of gay male misogyny. Definitely re-watching this in due time.

A Real Young Girl 1976
She put just about anything she could find (dirty spoons, red ink, chicken feathers and worms!!!) in her vagina. I do love how Breillat never shies away from the abject, especially when it comes to women's bodies in a never-ending quest to seek out agency and control. So transgressive, even for the '70s. Celebrating bodily fluids so that Alice never feels ashamed when she throws up on herself or uses her cum to write her name on a mirror. Beneath…

The Substance 2024
I don’t think a review does this movie justice. I’ve seen a lot of body horror in my life and nothing compares to this absolute manic, coked-out, brilliantly scabrous spectacle. With enough blood and gore to choke a horse and a truly punk spirit, ‘The Substance’ is the coolest fucking movie I’ve seen in years. And Demi Moore ate all of that up. Darkly hilarious but also deeply empathic.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 2012
I can’t deal with this. Vampires, who are otherwise the queerest, horniest and most alluring creatures, turned into a bunch of awkward, pro-life hetero mormons. The green screens? And that CGI baby!? Robert Pattinson babe, what’s going on??? Fuuuck my sense of the world is forever tainted by these movies.
