Stellar flick. There is so much of this movie that hits just the right spot for me. A menagerie of well-crafted and impeccably shot scenes with lots of little great details and just stellar faces. Alain Delon’s boyish, even impish face makes him shine amongst all the stark and dour colors of the sets. The movie never drags, never lingers, and feels very brisk despite the runtime. Just a terrific film.

The Madness of King George 1994
A surprisingly dark film (don’t watch this if you’re triggered by mistreatment of mental illness), but Nigel Hawthorne is utterly perfect here as the dynamic George. His seamless displays of mental illness and dynamism and blurring the lines between are positively engaging. The movie’s parliamentary b-plot is pretty dry so if you’re here for intricate political intrigue, this might not be for you. But I enjoyed this tremendously.

Ruthless People 1986
At the end of the movie you see a gag where two characters in the foreground juxtapose two characters fighting in the background about how great their marriage is. I made an offhand remark to my partner that it reminded me of a gag from Airplane!. Turns out my brain recognized the Zucker gag style without realizing I was watching a Zucker production.
Overall the movie’s very fun, and the “kidnapped by K-Mart” line is easily the hardest I’ve laughed…
