nobody gets shrek like i do.... bro did not just have a mid life crisis... for the first time in his life, he has something to lose, and having everything he could ever ask for in life scared him so much that he self sabotaged to live like he was alone again. he was on edge, overwhelmed and tired,and it was easier for him to push everyone away than to fear for the day they would 'inevitably' reject him...
