  Sometimes a film is greater than the sum of its parts. Are there problems here? Yes. The lighting is a mess in a lot of places. It feels a bit too long. Michelle Yeoh realllly can't sing. I wish there were more wide shots of the dancing. And worst of all, "Defying Gravity," one of the all-time great musical songs, is chopped up so much with interspersed dialogue that it loses its momentum. And yet... The performances are so strong.…
