Even on the third viewing I was totally blown away by D-Day from Animal House going completely scorched earth in the courtroom for five minutes and then disappearing the rest of the movie. While I wouldn’t find it controversial to say something other than this is Mann’s best movie, I don’t think any will really stand the test of time like this. No other movie of his lays out the ever heightening contradictions within all of America’s institutions. Hardly any movie by any other director does this as perfectly, for that matter.

I just got my wisdom teeth pulled and there’s really no better movie to just stare at on oxycodone with an ice pack on your jaw. An absolutely flawless masterpiece.

Not sure why but I truly did not think Mark Ruffalo still had it in him to this degree. Yorgos Lanthimos is the Tim Burton of Wes Andersons.

Of all the movies depicted in Thom Andersen’s Los Angeles Plays Itself, this is the one I’ve wanted to watch the most. And all he shows is the clip of Walker’s loud footsteps in the hallway. This will probably be bumped up to a 5 when I watch it again in a few weeks. By then I will get over the fact that the dean from Animal House is in this and that he looks just like Stan Getz.
