Playland 2023
Basically a character study of a gay bar in Boston that was open from the 30s through the 90s. Well worth watching if you have an appetite for out-there artsy films. It was shot beautifully, and I was lucky enough to see a showing at Vidiots where the director spoke to us after. A lot of the film was painstakingly researched from an LGBTQIA+ archive in Boston. I left feeling very thankful that West dedicated so much time and love to preserving the Playland Cafe for folks who weren’t in the right place at the right time to experience it.
