Mesmerizingly beautiful.
Kubrick forces the viewer to experience each painstaking moment of conflict, envy, pain, lust, and fury, but gives the viewer plenty of eye candy to make up for the sacrifice.
Though the pace of the story is slow, I couldn’t look away. Every moment, every facial expression, every hint of environment, costume or additional information left unmentioned in the dialogue feels absolutely essential.

wowowow. Incredibly well acted; the narrative and metanarrative blur together seamlessly. Well shot with great use of visual metaphor and abstraction, but doesn't sacrifice subtlety because of it. The film is more slowly paced than most, but if you have patience, the experience is worth it. For fans of stories about storytelling/ films about film, this is a must watch.
