I wasn’t as much of a fan as I expected to be based on all of the hype that this movie has. It takes a little too long to get really interesting, but the ending is very satisfying and is likely the reason for The Godfather’s reverence among movie lovers. Acting was great and the deaths were well done. Still, not really my kind of movie (watched it for a class), but I can appreciate the artistry and I still enjoyed the watch.
Compassionate, subtle thriller with a bittersweet ending that should be watched by most Americans. Watched for a "Revenge on Literature" class, and the dangers of cycles of revenge is a clear theme on display here.
First half was really losing me, especially when there wasn’t a cute animal on screen; the only gag I can remember from this section was Bill stealing the egg and then accidentally slapping it, which was pretty funny. Second half just gets better and better, as the slapstick keeps escalating (my favorite scenes were the entire horse debacle and the "nein" joke) and the plot becomes pretty compelling. While I enjoyed it, a shorter runtime without all the early fluff would have really helped this film.
Well, Barrymore is probably not as sexy as a Don Juan actor should be, but, by halfway through the film, it’s hard not to enjoy the absurdity of an average guy swooning over — and being swooned over by — practically every young woman he encounters.
