Wisely and the Kingdom of the Dragon Pearl.

Seeing this right after "Witchcraft (1988)" felt like night and day. This film immediately soothed me with its kung fu comfort food, topped with a delectable sauce of "indysploitation" adventure.

I learned from sensei Carlo, host from our Budget Slagers podcast, that the Wisely film franchise is a connected universe centered on the same character—a sci-fi writer and adventurer—spanning several films. One of these, "The Seventh Curse (1986)", happens to be one…

Watched the Eureka Blu-ray, which is bound to sell out like hotcakes—if it hasn’t already. I already owned a copy, but after hearing my co-hosts on the Dutch "Budget Slagers" podcast deliver their vocal love letters to this film, I had to give it the highest possible priority.

And wow—just wow. This is Hong Kong insanity at its absolute peak. Director Jing Wong managed to create not one but two "Street Fighter II" bootleg knockoffs: "City Hunter (1993)", where Jackie…

Everybody dies. And that's fucked up.

Went to the theater with my co-hosts from "De Budget Slagers" podcast, intrigued by all the bad buzz surrounding this Osgood Perkins-directed Stephen King adaptation—based on a short story from "Skeleton Crew". The critiques describing it as "Home Alone yet bloody" or "not like Longlegs " honestly felt more like a recommendation than a warning.

And yeah, I get why this would put people off. If you’re expecting a suspenseful horror flick, you’re in…

    Many thanks to Isla.

A Canadian slow-burn moody mystery/thriller with a dash of folk horror that made the festival rounds in 2023 before getting unceremoniously dumped on streaming in 2024 (think Tubi), buried under a sea of generic posters alongside countless Z-movie schlock. And what a crime that is—this deserves so much more.

Directed by Christian Sparkes, the film is beautifully shot on an idyllic island, filmed in the isolated community of Keels, Newfoundland. At its heart is a young…

    Paint Drying

As everybody uses "Paint Drying" as a way to post messages, here a small word from me as why I'm currently not watching and logging many films.

Last month, my wife was diagnosed with aggressive non-hormonal breast cancer. After our holiday trip to Disneyland, our lives were consumed with research, immune therapy, and chemotherapy, which was supposed to continue for about twenty weeks. At least, that was the plan.

Unfortunately, complications from the immune therapy arose. She’s been hospitalized for…
