  Upgrading this to 5/5 based off the black and white version. It looks magnificent. The cheesy animation looks actually great sans color. Went from a movie I love more than most seem to, but at the least was much better than its reputation, to potentially one of my favorite sf movies.

  I'm shocked to say that, but on this rewatch, having read a lot more gothic fiction since I last saw this, I now have a new favorite Del Toro movie. Never thought Pan's Labyrinth would drop to the second spot.

  Did a double feature of this with the newer George Armitage adaptation. That one was not as bad as Elmore Leonard said it was. This one just is just about that bad.
