Possession is definitely an unconventional movie. From start to finish, it’s unsettling, bizarre, and emotionally intense, yet I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. It tells the story of a marriage falling apart, but in such a wild and unexpected way that it becomes difficult to distinguish between reality and metaphor.
Isabelle Adjani’s performance is incredible! She completely transcends herself, especially in the subway scene. Sam Neill is great as well, but Adjani is so striking that he feels…

while Lolita avoids the commonplace endings of moralistic tales — rewards for the good, comeuppances for the bad. It is neither simply there to have various interpretations placed upon it; it is, in fact, moral. Getting there, to the deeper truth, requires discernment, judgement and a willingness to engage with the puzzle.
The book and movie are great, but that doesn't mean I support or enjoy this tragedy.
