Film #15: ALL of the films from a horror franchise (5/6)

I’m not sure what it was about this specific take on the classic Scream meta diatribe in comparison to the last 4 films, but this just felt well done, thorough, and clever (not better than #1, to be clear). I really enjoyed it from start to finish and truly didn’t know what to expect leading up to the killer reveal.

On a bigger note - my heart is BROKEN due to unspecified LOSSES! They really said - we didn’t come to play this time around!! RIP 🪦🖤

Film #14: 2 films made primarily or entirely in Texas (1/2)*

This was one of those films that leaves you a little uneasy after you’ve seen it, like perhaps you’ve done something wrong and you’ll get in trouble for it.. I felt the same after Texas Chainsaw so, I suppose Rob succeeded in his homage, from my POV. But as with its muse, this film made me wonder about the creators sanity, just a little :)

I realize that this is a somewhat divisive film and that’s understandable with the incredibly high level of body horror (I was cringing in my seat) but GODDAMN Fargeat is a genius.

The message is a simple one but, as a nearly 30yr old woman myself, it’s told in the most familiar voice I’ve ever heard; a voice rife with self-loathing, doubled-down upon by an inherently patriarchal Hollywood and a youth-obsessed LA. And with Demi/Margaret as your leads?? Two bold stars…

Film #7: New World Pictures films (2/3)

    2 things:
1 - I saw a Reddit comment for this film that said “Atmosphere over coherent sense isn’t a failing!” which I feel encompasses this film entirely
And 2 - I am unironically in love with Pinhead

I don’t care that the story fell apart halfway through or that there are plot holes big enough to stick my arm through, I LIKED IT it’s a weirdo psychosexual dreamscape and I’m a FAN.
