The movie isn’t made in a way to exude pure sadness, but as you watch it, you feel sad in an incomprehensible way, and I think that’s what makes it more poignant than any other movie actively trying to make you weep. Depression, grief, loss and suicide are mentioned in such subtle, metaphorical ways, through beautiful imagery and a lot of dancing. I’m heartbroken, because even as tragedy unfolds, a childhood’s colour palette will always be true to itself: bright, saturated and joyful.

La La Land 2016
One sentence summarises this movie to me: “The pain of what could’ve been”. The scene at the end is what one’s daydreams look like when parting with that ‘right person’ who showed up at an unsuitable time. I love this movie for defining a feeling that most words can’t even describe, without one replica from either of them. Utterly heartbreaking but thankfully there’s a beautiful colour palette and happy dances to keep one delighted.
