    hard not to be disappointed by a move from parasite -- an outrageously sharp social critique fueled by bong's tight and fluid constructions -- to this movie, whose satire is dulled by sprawling second-half pacing and rather explicit and straightforward commentary. there's certainly some pieces here that work, like the opening compilation of the other mickeys' deaths, the romance between mickey and nasha, and pattinson's whole performance, but unfortunately, after driving back from the theatre I am primarily thinking about…

    a hazy sequence of dreams and attempted awakenings where the unleashing of repressed desire reveals the dysfunction under the surface of a comforting domestic life, guides the audience to a world of distilled voyeuristic exploitation so deeply rooted in extreme class differences that no one can even try to challenge it, and ultimately forces that domestic world previously made so alienating to be the only source of refuge from such corruption and powerlessness... merry christmas, I guess?
