This is definitely a film that will reward rewatching - the abundance of different themes and interpretations almost mirrors the conversation that sits at the centre of the film itself. My overriding impression after my first watch, though, is that this is a rich account of how isolation and disconnectedness can leave us unable to make meaning of social interactions and create threats where there are none. FFC at his best.

Judgment at Nuremberg 1961
A remarkable film; beautifully shot and so fantastically paced you barely realise that three hours have passed. Above it offers a searing indictment of the hypocrisy of the allies without drifting into moral relativism.

Chinatown 1974
Something incredible be jarring about this being a scathing critique of the way corruption and abuse is embedded in American society and it being directed by Polanski. Can only conclude he finished watching his final cut and did the equivalent of the “Huh. I wonder who that’s for?” image from Garfield.
