Ahh...the days when Britain made movies. Stellar production design, cinematography, and performances all brought together expertly by Carol Reed's direction. Not only did he get such great performances from child actors, but from a dog too. All round stunning.

Punch-Drunk Love 2002
Hadn't seen this in years. Love it still on every level, aside from the intrusive score and sound design. Completely get what PTA was going for and normally really appreciate his use of music in his films, but this took away from the heart of it for me personally. It's still a beautiful expression of love and exploration of layered characters.

Wolf Man 2025
Don't understand the hate. Was entertained from start to finish, even managed to pull at some emotional strings that I rarely, if ever, get from a horror movie. The performances were great and the sound design was especially outstanding. My one criticism was some awful exposition which felt like a studio note for those who hadn't been paying attention. It really could have done without it, or been better written so as it didn't stick out like a big sore thumb...or claw.

Ready or Not 2019
This had the makings of everything I love in a film, but I felt was badly let down by a dumb script with poorly thought out character motivations and clunky exposition. Why characters are shouting and screaming when they're trying to hide was irritating as f***. Well acted and well shot but lacked an ingredient that should have made this creepy as hell. Sat too much in a grey area of horror and black comedy to feel like it tonely knew what it wanted to be. Some of the 6M budget should have gone on script development.
