Each time I come back to this, I like it more. It’s also fun to see the directorial style of Taika Waititi across time being molded and honed in. I think he really caught his groove here, and it’s all over Jojo Rabbit. The complexities of joyousness in troubled times, the quick cuts and montages, the colorful landscapes, it all works together so well through his lens.
I hope we see this quirky, off-beat charm more in his new projects. It’s truly something special.

My Octopus Teacher 2020
An intimate and transformative experience, paving a new era of Nature Docs to come. We’re so surrounded by stale, distant Nature specials that are undoubtedly beautiful (thanks to nature itself and the technology to capture it), but this is different, in the best way. Damn. What an intimate mingling of the divine and the sacredness of the everyday.

The prayers from the perspective of the mother, father, and son throughout caught me for their tangibleness, their faith in the seeking. This paired with the continual visual symbolism of the Holy in the mundane grasped me – a…Translated from by -
A Hidden Life 2019
It is better to have injustice done to you than to do it.
A quiet masterpiece, relentlessly honoring of the struggle of doing what is right — no matter the cost.
This is a fearless and straightforward testament of Christ-likeness in action, with no restraint on the ripple effects it creates. Witnessing small sacrifice after small sacrifice from the husband and the wife in rejection of the "comfortable Christ" (laid out to us by the cathedral painter) was maddening and…Translated from by
