Got to see it on the big screen for the anniversary. The movie is funny and absolutely holds up as a serviceable movie musical with very clear nods to multiple eras of the genre. The jokes are a little rough at times, but a lot of them still land. With the current spate of book bans and other Christian fundamentalist censorship the overall plot holds up too well for comfort.

I remember not really liking this movie when it came out, but on a second watch, 20 years later, it was actually pretty good. It hits nostalgic notes, and is probably the gold standard for movies where the gags don’t have to interact with the plot.
