You know when a film is so bad it's good? Well Cats is just bad. I was originally torn between giving this film one star or half a star, I like to keep my half a star ratings for films that are so bad they're good, but Cats doesn't deserve a star. I could only see this film as having a higher rating because I feel so bad for cast members.

Dramatic but grounded, realistic but nuanced, the dialogue absorbed me throughout. The themes of self-deprivation, playing into the title, playing into the relationships and having callbacks in the third act felt fully realised, sharp and fulfilling. The plot structure through chapters created an equally satisfying pace, drawing attention to certain moments and lines of dialogue through bookends (often these moments are lost in scene transitions, which makes the story’s themes and character changes more digestible for an audience). The narration also gave perfect insights, never overbearing and always providing a perceptive flair that is actually insightful.
