In some ways this felt as dreamy as Call Me By Your Name and as nightmarish as Suspiria. It reminded me of Edward Hopper paintings and Douglas Sirk movies with the way shadow and colour was used, and I felt like the use of an Old Hollywood-esque sound stage set gave the film an artificial feeling in line with the fact these are a bunch of white American men using Mexico City as their playground.

Had the pleasure of watching this at Edinburgh Film Festival, and was incredibly moved.
Set in 1920s England, the film focuses on Owen (played beautifully by Fionn O’Shea), who is being forcibly treated to ‘cure’ his homosexuality. We go back and forth between the quiet, clinical scenes of his treatment and the colourful and passionate flashbacks of his falling in love with an old classmate and the events between them, both external and internal, that rip them apart.
