This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
There’s a huge difference between being forced into a quiet life, and choosing a quiet life. I couldn’t help but think of Hirayama in Perfect Days. His quiet, tranquil life is intentional. The Milk of Sorrow 2009
Although fairly abstract and unsettling, I found this to be a beautiful film. Fausta’s paranoia and the lengths she goes to protect herself from her greatest fears are heartbreaking. But, her character arc is fascinating, and Noe plays a beautiful supporting role. He, in a way, represents her greatest fear. But he is perhaps the one who finally breaks through her iron-clad shell and challenges her to consider her fears. La teta asustada is a rich, parabolic story and I’m happy to have watched it.

Embrace of the Serpent 2015
El abrazo de la serpiente is an incredibly beautiful and mesmerizing film. What a poignant way to represent such complex issues of colonialism, remembrance, respect for the earth, etc. Remembrance is a powerful force that links us with our ancestors as well as with God.
