This was two different films. It started in a really interesting place looking at the ethical implications of transhumanism, cloning and the ontological debates of nearly here technology. Then it becomes a pretty tired Trump satire with a very worn sci-fi conceit driving the plot. Beautiful and intriguing at times, then tedious and blunt at others. Very much a curate’s egg of a film.

The Last Showgirl 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
This film is way less charming than it should be. Anderson is winsome and holds the screen for every shot she’s in. But, this needed an actual plot not the same scene endlessly repeated as act two. The cinematography is a mess - pointlessly out of focus, randomly handheld and always straining too hard to appear stylised. The ending looks like a series of thoughtlessly improvised moments, some of which seem to break the logic of the film. And how many times have I seen that audition scene 🙄
