Cape Fear 1962
J. Lee Thompson is no Hitchcock— the shocking moments here feel a little telegraphed and the ending is almost too clean, but this tight and tense thriller is far more sinister than the censors would allow thanks to a truly dangerous score from the great Bernard Herrmann and a highly effective Robert Mitchum, who plays sadistic psychopath better than just about anyone.
