God, what a good movie. Probably the most Vincent Minnelli-ish movie he ever made. The entire color scheme is in every frame, with the most obsessively ornate sets. He got his start as a famous interior designer, when there was such a thing, and you can tell. I think Astaire does comedy here better than I've seen before. My only gripe is the shoe horned in romance between Cyd Charisse and her asexual grandfather.

What a beautiful, dreamlike, unpredictable movie. Janet Gaynor is great in it, & won the first Best Actress Oscar for this, 7th Heaven, & Street Angel. (During that first year you won for all the movies you did that year.) Also the plot stops dead for a pig to get chased, & then drunk on wine, before continuing on.

The old yarn of three big hearted industrialists provide a meet-cute between a singing cowboy and a city girl, before they die in a plane crash, and return as ghosts, to guide the couple's relationship through the perils of singing cowboy loving thots. I loved it. Weird comfort food movie.

That was great. An English anthology horror film from 1945, unique in that horror movies were banned from production in England during the war. A man living out a recurring dreams hears supernatural stories from the people gathered. You'll recognize the themes, having seemingly been lifted for episodes of the Twilight Zone and others. The circular nature of the plot was said to be an inspiration for the steady state model of the universe, a discredited alternative to the big bang. The actress who plays the teenage daughter, Sally Ann Howes is still alive today at 90.
