All We Imagine as Light 2024
"Maybe there was nothing left to say."
It didn't cohere quite as profoundly as I had hoped, but I enjoyed an eerily melancholic portrait of Mumbai during what I can confirm from first-hand experience is a chaotic time of year. The switch up toward the dream-like final act made me think of another Cannes prize winner (jury): Tropical Malady (2004). I think a lot of the subtleties that come from being able to distinguish between the various languages spoken in the film were certainly lost on me, but I think I caught some of them.

Civil War 2024
Do you expect viewers to have any emotional buy-in to a fiction about a colonial empire eating itself, when that same state is the primary enabler of an actual, ongoing, live-streamed genocide? The fact that I have seen every single 'shocking' image in this film (and far worse) come out of Gaza in the past months makes this movie completely hollow. I'm not even gonna get into the 2D characters, nonsensical exposition or total lack of context to what is supposed to be happening politically.
