Princess Mononoke 1997
It’s exceptionally rude to hunt down a forest god whose death will destroy the land for all the large boars, wolves, and dimwit humans, imo.

Asteroid City 2023
Feels like he’s exploring something other than “goofballs in a foreign land” for the first time since Grand Budapest. Certainly one of, if not his most, poignant film. His whole asthetic feels more earned in this one, or maybe at least more properly in place. Really enjoyed it, but I’d have cast Natalie Portman or someone with more obvious sadness than ScarJo (who is still very good, so it’s really a minor gripe).
