The Northman 2022
One of my early thoughts was that this film has a lot of what people probably thought they would get from The Green Knight (namely action). This isn’t a knock on the latter at all since I enjoyed both. The Northman left me considering more than I expected. About the nature of violence, and how tools that serve us for survival can end up hindering the next phase of our life if we aren’t able to take the weight off.…

The Power of the Dog 2021
First film of 2022 and it was pretty good. I wasn’t high on seeing it (Benedict Cumberbatch as a cowboy?) but he fit into the role pretty seamlessly. The pacing did feel brisk in some spots; a slight causality of telling this story within a reasonable 2 hours. Themes of masculinity, expression, seeking connection, and an ending that maybe merits a rewatch at some point.
