On re-watching this unofficial Abraham Merritt adaptation, I am again struck by the comparable novelty of its use of an early-60s glamorous woman as something of an occult detective.
Karina is usually running intellectual circles around the police and her boring fiancé, and even though there's a bit of the old "but your explanation is preposterous" going around, they soon start doing what she says to ward off the doll people and their master.Add some peculiar ideas and even more peculiar effects work to that, and you've got me.
