I love how self-aware the movie is: everyone here gives Snow White sh*t for her apple pie economics.
With all the bad press this live-action remake received due to Zegler’s comments, it’s both surprising and unfortunate that she’s the best part of this movie. It’s pretty clear that she gave it her all, theater skills and whatnot, as if trying to make-up for the backlash she caused.
The rest of the film is a mess of laughably bad production values…
It's a harrowing and heartbreaking watch but, at the same time, Adolescence will astonish you on a technical level. It's a masterclass of acting, directing, and camerawork.
Still, there are times when the show felt a bit gimmicky with the one takes; like almost an obligation to make each episode fall into the same format.
This doesn't diminish, however, the quality of this limited series. Cliché as it may sound, it's unlike anything you've ever seen on TV.
This is my sober rating. When drunk, this film deserves at least 4 stars.
The stopmotion animation and practical effects were brilliant but this was such a slog to go through. Sometimes, it even borders on arthouse pretentiousness. Points for being an unconvetional horror movie but convention is needed at times so a film doesn't go all over the place.
