  In many ways, there is much to admire about Oppenheimer, and it certainly comes across as one of Nolan’s most mature to date. The way it leans heavily upon the original text is admirable, and the inclusion of all the major (and even minor) players results in a historical accuracy and intellectual rigour which I have often criticised other films for lacking. Here, however, lies the issue… in that I came to realise throughout the extended run-time of the film…

  Considering this was watched by two people with at least some level of interest in the musical genre, we were left perplexed as to how this got nominated for an academy award. The opening number (and whole first act) was pretty underwhelming, with the decision to use a recorded soundtrack (with poor miming) incredibly jarring.   One of the few truly anti-war war films. At times slow, often suspenseful, but we are left in no doubt that there are no redeeming qualities to the theatre of war, not even within the fragile bonds of comradeship. Harrowing.
