A moving and beautifully told story. The only thing that possibly let it down was the modern ideas that ran throughout what is in effect a reflection of history. What I mean by that is things like references to “the novel” a concept that wouldn’t truthfully be established for another hundred years. Or women asking for female equality long before feminism had even been a thought in people’s minds. I think there would have greater emotional depth if these characters…
