I was really excited for this movie, because I'd seen The Lighthouse by Eggers and the original Nosferatu from 1922. Sadly this movie wasn't as great as I thought it would've been. It starts off well, but soon becomes a bit too intense, staying that way almost through out the whole film, and the intensity doesn't feel justified. It feels like it's trying hard to keep regular horror movie goers engaged. The last scene was an exception, and I think…
Just a really well made movie! I love stop-motion, comedy and Wes Anderson's style, so it's a perfect mixture for me. This is definitely one of his best movies.
I remember seeing this movie when I was a kid and the pie machine scene was pure horror back then! It's surprisingly brutal for a children's movie and the movie's setting is also reminiscent of a concentration camp.
It's still a really enjoyable movie to watch because it doesn't underestimate the viewer with it's underlying themes. On top of that it's filled with dark humour, slapstick and self-aware puns that still make me giggle.
