Sometimes when I watch older movies I'm shocked at how much time they "waste." Scenes that aren't critical to the plot but just serve to immerse the audience into setting of the film. Anora places us in Ani's life. It's not exaggerated, it's not tongue-in-cheek, it's honest, it's real.
