1 star. Ridiculous script. Star Wars-tier CGI demon battles. Russell Crowe rides a vespa all the way from Rome to Spain while wearing knee high red socks and speaking in an Italian accent that would make anyone weep with laughter. This movie fucking rules.

Quite long for a modern audience (nearly 4 hours), but the pacing and activity stay at a steady enough rate that I was never truly bored. The film concerns a man on a strange world dealing with the savage lifestyles of the medieval people around him and a religious inquisition. To illustrate the point that these people are simple, they often cover themselves in shit and eat shit out of buckets or latrines.

Probably my personal favorite Vietnam movie, and I definitely prefer theatrical.
The Do Lung bridge to me made all the pieces in my head fit together. The slow ride up the river in black that turns into a kaleidoscopic orgy of light, color, noise, and violence. The total confusion of all the soldiers at the bridge and seeming absence of any leadership or reinforcement paints a hopeless picture. Now I could see why people would go mad on the river!
