Anora 2024
Anora seems to ride on it's momentum (think Uncut Gems pacing) and Mikey Madison's performance. Something didn't sit quite right with me that the titular character barely gets any emotional development. We know she wants to stay married to Ivan and that's all, we barely get a glimpse of her ambition. The last thirty seconds packed in emotions that should've been strung in throughout.

A Real Pain 2024
Jesse Eisenberg captures the volatility of loving an unstable sibling while you're masking your own pain perfectly. Men expressing themselves intricately is always lovely to watch, my only nitpicking would be it could've been subtler in the dialouge but the film is super short and sweet so I didn't mind it.
Having lived my life like both characters, battling with internalizing my pain whilst being supportive to others, being the only one in the family to speak up and be constantly emotional, this film made me feel so understood. Walked out feeling lighter and vowing to call my brother more.
